Mark Leiter

Mark Leiter is an advisor and author. Mark has approached strategy development as a board member, operating executive, strategy consultant, and capital investor.

Mark’s specialty is improving the performance of Business-to-Business (B2B) organizations that provide sophisticated products, services, and solutions. His expertise is the design and development of corporate and business-unit strategy, growth and go-to-market strategy, and strategic communications.

From 2006 to 2016, Mark was at Nielsen, ultimately serving as the firm’s Chief Strategy Officer and a member of the CEO’s executive committee. Prior roles included President, Global Practices & Products for the BUY division ($3B business unit) and President, North American Professional Services ($1B business unit). He was part of a team that tripled Nielsen’s enterprise value from $9B to $27B. During his tenure, the company went public and joined the S&P 500.

Mark started his career with Bain & Company then joined McKinsey & Company. He co-founded McKinsey’s B2B Marketing and Branding practices. He then became Senior Partner at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young where he co-led the firm’s strategy and transformation practice and served as the firm’s Chief Marketing Officer. At all three firms, he was a member of the Financial Services and Technology & Telecommunications sector practices.

Mark is the author of Crafting Strategy in an Accelerating World: practical advice from Chief Strategy Officers operating in global, public corporations (World 50; 2018). His perspectives have been shared across media, including Bloomberg, Business Strategy Review, Consulting Magazine, The Economist, Knowledge@Wharton, and The McKinsey Quarterly.

Mark is also a Distinguished Strategy Fellow and Global Counsellor at The Conference Board where he serves on the firm’s Global Advisory Council. He is a Trustee at The Committee for Economic Development (CED). He is a partner at Pereg Ventures, a venture capital firm that invests in early-stage B2B services ventures, and serves as a senior advisor to Oaklins, the world’s largest investment banking firm serving middle-market corporations.  Mark currently serves on the Board of Directors of The VH1 Save the Music Foundation, InMoment, and Quaero.

Mark was a research fellow at Harvard Business School, holds an M.A. from Harvard University and a B.A., summa cum laude, from the State University of New York at Albany.
