Paul Magill, member of The Council, consultant & advisor and former executive in the tech and life sciences/healthcare industries.
Paul began his career as a consultant at Bain & Company in London. He later went on to become Partner and Senior Partner at Monitor (subsequently acquired by Deloitte). Mr. Magill was also a Partner at McKinsey & Company where he co-led the Marketing Organization and Capability-Building service line in the Marketing & Sales Practice. He later served as a Senior Advisor for the Firm.
Paul was an executive at IBM, where he led the Marketing and Strategy functions in the Services division – spanning business consulting, IT outsourcing, and other service lines. Paul also served as Vice President, Marketing Strategy at IBM Corporate HQ, reporting to IBM’s CMO, and responsible for IBM’s corporate brand strategy and marketing transformation.
Following, Mr. Magill served as SVP and Chief Marketing Officer at Abbott Laboratories, where he led the Marketing, Communications and Citizenship functions, reporting to the CEO, and was a member of Abbott’s Operating Committee. He was responsible for designing and building the global and regional marketing organizations, capabilities, and corporate brand/reputation assets required for new-Abbott following the spin-off of AbbVie. He also served as President of Abbott’s philanthropic foundation.
Most recently, Paul was a Managing Director at Deloitte Consulting. He has particularly extensive experience in helping executives improve the strategic impact and organizational effectiveness of marketing and other customer-facing functions; and in helping companies identify, design and build the commercial capabilities required to drive growth.
Paul holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and BA/MA degrees from the University of Cambridge.
