Nick Kramer, SSA’s Senior Director of Data and Analytics, contributed to the U.S. News & World Report’s article on “How to Invest in the Internet of Things” on April 13th, 2016. Nick provided information on the nature of IoT, how it affects global firms, and how IoT firms’ success varies over time. Specifically, Nick emphasized that companies need to think about their own strategy when considering IoT investments. He explains that companies should diversify their IoT portfolio as there is significant volatility, even in the companies backed by tech giants (e.g. Google). Research is critical, and Nick recommends looking at quarterly and annual reports, who initially funded the company, and the venture capitalist firms that are behind the original investors .
