Building Your Personal Resilience

Through the Covid-19 pandemic a lot has been written and talked about regarding resilience, such as the idea that we want resilient countries, companies and individuals who can effectively handle unexpected situations that come their way without being knocked down. The topic of being resilient is something I personally worked through when I was sent to boarding school. My family and I lived in Kenya at the time, and for me to attend a good institution, the best option was for me to go to a boarding school in a different country.

At six years old and entering the first grade, this is not something I had been expecting or anticipating. Many people experience far more difficult and impactful situations than the one I am personally describing but for me this was something that rocked my world as a child and required me to first absorb what was happening, come to terms with the fact that it was happening and I could not change it and then finally figure out how to be reasonably successful in this new and uncharted world without a guide. As a young child with no tools or immediate guidance, I had to figure things out through trial and error.
